Bridgestone sets benchmarks with new tyres for underground mining
Bridgestone increases efficiency and performance in underground mining with a tyre range specifically developed for extreme operating conditions. The new VMNT, VMDL and VMMS tyres have been specifically designed for the demands of underground mining, where rough, sharp-edged rock surfaces, high moisture and constant loads push tyres and material to their limits every day.
All three tyres feature Bridgestone’s Subterranean technology, used for the first time on machines in underground applications, which enables operators to transport very high loads without having to increase tyre pressure. At the same time, the new technology reduces the risk of cuts, punctures and costly downtime.
The new product range is part of Bridgestone’s “Moving More with Less” philosophy. It combines increased load capacity, durability and safety in one package that supports operators in maximising their productivity in underground mining.
Specially developed for the extreme demands of underground mining
The tyres were developed specifically for demanding conditions in underground mining. Their tread design helps to better absorb and eject stones and sharp-edged material, reducing cuts and damage to the rubber – without compromising traction or ride comfort. The result is improved protection against damage – especially in conditions where standing water and high moisture as well as abrasive surfaces place additional stress on the tyres.
The VMNT tyre for underground dump trucks offers outstanding load capacity without increased tyre pressure and a longer service life, while the VMDL for underground load-haul-dump machines (LHDs) features a special lug tread that ensures optimum traction through the tyre.
The VMMS features an innovative, smooth and groove-free tread design, as the necessary traction in underground mining is mainly generated by the vehicle weight and ground pressure . In addition, reinforced and cut-resistant sidewalls ensure further improved resistance and durability under demanding operating conditions.
