Continental Earns EcoVadis Gold Rating, Ranks Among Top 5% for Sustainability
Continental has strengthened its position as one of the tire industry's leading sustainability performers after receiving a Gold Medal in the latest EcoVadis Sustainability Rating. With 84 out of 100 points, the company ranks among the top five percent of all companies assessed worldwide, highlighting its continued progress in environmental responsibility, ethical business practices and sustainable supply chain management.
The 2026 assessment marks the first time Continental has been evaluated in the "manufacture of rubber tyres and tubes" industry category, following previous assessments in the broader automotive supplier segment. Despite the change in evaluation criteria, the company maintained its strong sustainability performance.
Continental achieved its highest scores in the Environment and Labor & Human Rights categories, earning 86 points in each. EcoVadis also assessed the company's performance in Ethics and Sustainable Procurement, reviewing management systems, climate initiatives, certifications, transparency and responsible sourcing practices.
According to Jorge Almeida, Head of Sustainability for Continental's Tires group sector, the results reflect the company's long-term commitment to integrating sustainability throughout its operations. The strong environmental score highlights investments in renewable and recycled materials, emission reduction measures and responsible manufacturing processes.
Continental continues to expand the use of sustainable raw materials in tire production. In 2025, 28% of the production materials purchased for its tires came from renewable or recycled sources, with the company targeting at least 40% by 2030. These materials include recycled PET bottles for polyester fibers, recycled steel, silica derived from rice husk ash and synthetic rubber produced from renewable and circular feedstocks.
The manufacturer has also made significant progress in reducing its carbon footprint. Over the past four years, Continental has lowered absolute CO₂ emissions from tire production by approximately 180,000 metric tons, supported by the transition to lower-emission energy sources. At the beginning of 2026, the company completed the phase-out of coal and heavy fuel oil across all of its tire production facilities worldwide.
The latest EcoVadis recognition reinforces Continental's strategy of combining technological innovation with sustainability, as the company continues to advance circular materials, responsible sourcing and lower-emission manufacturing across its global tire business.
