Japanese Tyre Industry Expands Scientific Research on Tyre Wear Particles

The Japanese tyre industry is strengthening its scientific efforts to better understand and reduce the environmental impact of Tyre and Road Wear Particles (TRWP) through new cooperation with domestic research institutions.

The initiative, announced by the Japan Automobile Tyre Manufacturers Association (JATMA), reflects the industry's long-term commitment to supporting independent scientific research while improving tyre performance and sustainability.

Understanding Tyre and Road Wear Particles

Tyre and Road Wear Particles are microscopic particles generated through the normal interaction between tyres and road surfaces during everyday driving.

According to JATMA, these particles are produced as tyres gradually wear throughout their service life. Their quantity can be influenced by multiple factors, including driving style, vehicle weight, road conditions, tyre design, inflation pressure, and maintenance practices.

The association emphasizes that tyre wear is a complex issue requiring scientific evaluation rather than simplified assumptions.
