Longxing Begins Commercial Supply of Sustainable Carbon Black to European Tyre Manufacturer
China's Longxing Technology Group has reached an important milestone in the transition towards more sustainable tyre production, announcing the start of commercial deliveries of sustainable carbon black to a major European tyre manufacturer.
According to the company, the initial order comprises nearly 10,000 tonnes of sustainable carbon black following the successful completion of the customer's qualification and approval process. While Longxing has not disclosed the identity of the tyre manufacturer, the agreement marks the company's first large-scale commercial supply to the European tyre industry.
Unlike conventional carbon black, which is primarily produced from fossil-based coal tar feedstocks, Longxing's sustainable material is manufactured using pyrolysis oil derived from end-of-life tyres. The company states that the resulting product delivers performance comparable to virgin carbon black while reducing reliance on fossil resources and supporting circular economy objectives.
Longxing distinguishes its product from traditional recovered carbon black (rCB). Rather than recovering carbon black directly from tyre pyrolysis, the company uses tyre-derived pyrolysis oil as a feedstock to manufacture new carbon black through its conventional production process. According to Longxing, this approach combines the performance characteristics required by premium tyre manufacturers with a significantly improved sustainability profile.
The company also confirmed that it is currently working with several additional European tyre manufacturers on development programmes covering product sampling, validation and certification. These projects are expected to support future commercial agreements as demand for sustainable raw materials continues to increase across the tyre industry.
Longxing began research into tyre pyrolysis oil-based carbon black in 2024 and completed development of its SC-series products in 2025. Environmental approval for commercial production was granted at the end of 2025, paving the way for industrial-scale manufacturing.
The company plans to expand production capacity in line with customer demand as tyre manufacturers accelerate the adoption of renewable and circular raw materials to meet increasingly ambitious sustainability targets. Longxing believes sustainable carbon black will become one of the fastest-growing segments within the global carbon black industry over the coming years.
With Europe continuing to push for lower-carbon supply chains and increased use of recycled feedstocks, Longxing's first commercial supply agreement represents another indication that sustainable alternatives to conventional carbon black are moving from pilot projects into industrial production.
