Through the energy crisis with fuel-saving tyres: up to 2,400 euros less in costs per truck annually
The Middle East conflict is leading to immense cost increases in the German economy. According to a survey by the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the reason for this is above all the interplay of rising transport costs and expensive energy.1 When fuel prices are high, every kilometer costs money, especially for freight forwarders. This is because fuel consumption accounts for around 30 percent of a truck’s total operating costs.2 While the pure purchase price of tyres plays only a subordinate role, they can unfold their true potential on the road and be a real secret weapon for transport companies and truck fleets when it comes to reducing costs.
In order to mitigate rising prices and continue to hold their own in international competition, fuel-efficient and long-lasting tyres that can also be regrooved and retreaded are an important lever.
Advantage 1: Fuel efficiency combined with high mileage
The MICHELIN X® LINE ENERGY™ 3 for steering and drive axles is the first long-distance tyre in long-haul transport (60 series) with an A fuel energy efficiency rating. This puts it at the top of the tyres for the 60 series in terms of fuel savings, with lower consumption of up to 0.62 liters per 100 kilometers compared with the average of the competitors tested. This makes significant fuel cost savings of more than 1,860 euros per truck per year possible.3 In addition to reducing CO2 emissions through fuel efficiency and offering high traction, the MICHELIN X® LINE ENERGY™ 3 impresses with three percent higher mileage compared with the previous model.4
The MICHELIN X® MULTI ENERGY™ 2 tyres for steering and drive axles are specially designed for trucks and heavy commercial vehicles and can be used flexibly for transport on motorways, federal roads or country roads. With them, fuel savings of up to 1.2 liters per 100 kilometers compared with the MICHELIN X® MULTI are possible. That means cost savings of up to 2,400 euros per year and truck.5
Advantage 2: regroovable and retreadable
The truck tyres benefit from Michelin’s technological expertise in the areas of rolling resistance, recycled or biologically produced materials and reducing the ecological footprint. MICHELIN X® LINE ENERGY™ 3 and MICHELIN X® MULTI ENERGY™ 2 are regroovable and retreadable, with the MULTI ENERGY™ 2 even suitable for MICHELIN REMIX 2. This process makes it possible to regroove three times and retread twice. This extends the service life of the tyres by up to 375 percent6 compared with a new tyre (100 percent), reducing the cost per kilometer by up to 33 percent.7 REMIX 2 tyres follow the same quality standards as new MICHELIN tyres in terms of control, traction and grip.8
The REMIX 2 process also sets standards when it comes to conserving resources: It reduces the ecological footprint of the tyres by cutting CO2 emissions by up to 115 kilograms in combination with material savings.9 For freight forwarders and truck fleets, this is a potential added value, as it enables them to partially offset their ecological footprint through CO2 certificates for climate-neutral transport.
