Morocco Launches Construction of Africa’s Largest Tire Manufacturing Plant

The African tire industry is entering a new chapter as Morocco officially begins construction of what is set to become the continent’s largest tire manufacturing facility.

Developed by Goldensun Tire Morocco, a subsidiary of China's Shandong Yongsheng Rubber Group, the project represents an investment of approximately US$675 million and underscores Morocco's growing importance as a global automotive manufacturing hub.

Located in Driouch Province in northeastern Morocco, the facility is expected to have an annual production capacity of 18 million tires, serving passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, and other transportation sectors. Commercial production is scheduled to begin in early 2027.

A Strategic Investment for the African Tire Industry

The new factory is one of the largest tire manufacturing investments ever announced in Africa. Once operational, it is expected to create more than 1,700 direct jobs, while supporting thousands of additional positions across logistics, raw materials, distribution, and industrial services.

For Morocco, the project represents another milestone in the country's strategy to expand its automotive supply chain. The nation has already become a leading vehicle manufacturing center in Africa, and the addition of large-scale tire production further strengthens its vertically integrated automotive ecosystem.
