Pirelli and ABET Group Partner to Develop Remote-Controlled Rescue Vehicles

Pirelli has signed a strategic agreement with Italy's ABET Group to jointly develop next-generation remote-controlled electric ground rescue vehicles (UGVs) designed for operations in extreme and hazardous environments. The collaboration combines advanced tyre technology, artificial intelligence and intelligent sensing systems to improve the performance, safety and reliability of unmanned rescue platforms.

At the heart of the partnership is Pirelli's Cyber Tyre technology. The intelligent tyre system integrates physical and virtual sensors capable of transmitting real-time information about grip and operating conditions, enabling the vehicle to optimize traction and remote driving performance across challenging terrain.

Pirelli will also develop a dedicated tyre based on its proprietary Run Forward technology, engineered to provide maximum mobility on rough surfaces while supporting the demanding requirements of rescue and emergency missions.

Beyond tyre development, both companies will jointly create AI and machine learning models that combine data from tyres, vehicle sensors and onboard cameras. These predictive systems are intended to enhance vehicle functionality and support safer, more efficient operation in difficult environments.

The unmanned vehicles are expected to be deployed in disaster response, wildfire and earthquake rescue, contaminated or radioactive areas, as well as military logistics and emergency operations where reducing risks to personnel is critical.

According to Pirelli CEO Andrea Casaluci, the agreement further expands the company's Cyber Tyre ecosystem into new application areas beyond conventional road vehicles. ABET High Tech Solutions CEO Fulvio Serra highlighted that intelligent tyre data will play a key role in improving the safety and operational capabilities of future unmanned rescue vehicles.

As the collaboration involves technologies considered strategically important, the agreement will be submitted to the Italian authorities under the country's Golden Power regulations.
