Prometeon publishes its 2024 Sustainability Report: net-zero target by 2040

The Prometeon Tyre Group, a global manufacturer of tyres for the commercial vehicle, agricultural and OTR sectors, has published its 2024 Sustainability Report, which reaffirms the Group’s ESG strategy and further consolidates the central role of sustainability across all areas of the company.

Structured around four core dimensions – environment, social, governance and economy – the report shows how sustainability targets have become an integral part of corporate operations and strategic decision-making.

In 2024, Prometeon recorded a 35,8 % reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) compared with 2016, the year the company was founded, thus exceeding the original target of 32 % by 2030. Electricity consumption also fell by 13,6 % compared with 2016.

The company plans to reduce energy consumption by 23 % by 2025 and by 31 % by 2030 – in each case compared with 2016. In the long term, Prometeon has set itself the ambitious goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2040 – in line with the 1,5 °C target of the Paris Agreement.

At the same time, the company continues to focus on renewable energy, which now accounts for 47,8 % of the Group’s total electricity consumption. In Brazil, 100 % of the electricity used comes from renewable sources, and the Gravataí production site is already climate-neutral for Scope 1 and 2 emissions.

Materials and waste management are also at the heart of the company’s strategy: 33 % of the materials used come from renewable sources, while the share of recycled materials is 1,89 % – with a further upward trend. Prometeon’s goal is to increase the share of renewable and recycled materials to 40 % by 2030 and to 100 % by 2050. In waste management, the recovery rate in 2024 was already 98,2 %, significantly above the target of 97 % set for 2030.

The supply chain is a central element in Prometeon’s sustainability path. In 2024, 17 supplier audits were carried out, covering 21 % of the annual raw materials purchasing value. The aim is to extend this audit process to 100 % of raw material expenditure within five years. This initiative goes beyond mere monitoring at suppliers and is intended to achieve positive impacts along the entire production chain.

Last year, the company introduced a structured incentive plan for all employees, linking bonuses and additional benefits to the achievement of ESG targets.

Prometeon was also assessed by Morningstar Sustainalytics for the ESG approach embedded in its business model. The company received a remarkably low ESG Risk Score of 12,5 (“Low Risk”), attributable to its continuous commitment to sustainability and GHG reduction. This rating places Prometeon among the best companies worldwide: ranked 10th in the automotive sector and 5th in the tyre sector.

This positioning reflects the robustness of Prometeon’s ESG management model and confirms the company’s growing commitment to limiting environmental, social and governance risks along its entire value chain.

Nicolas Marchi, Head of Internal Audit, Compliance, Sustainability and Institutional Relations at Prometeon, stated: “In a market such as the tyre industry for the commercial vehicle, agricultural and OTR sectors, sustainability is a strategic priority. Integrating ESG criteria into our operating model – including supplier selection, employee well-being and financial structure – enables us to create value in an environmental, social and economic context. This commitment not only strengthens our leadership position, but also brings us decisively closer to our “Net-Zero 2040” goal while driving innovation in materials, processes and product performance. Sustainability has also become an important factor in attracting talented young people, who are increasingly sensitive to these issues.”
